Initially, we were told William was going to require an MRI to get better imaging of his tumor. The oncologist later changed those orders to a CT scan. For the testing, an IV needed to be secured to administer the contrast for the scan. At the time, William was still very swollen with edema and very difficult to access his veins. They ended up placing a scalp IV. It was the first procedure Mommy had to leave the room for. Fortunately, Daddy was able to stay and hold William's hand.
They used an adhesive to stabilize the IV - it just looked horrible (and the adhesive smelled equally as awful!). That's one thing I'll never forget...
