Through all of William's tests and surgeries, we quickly learned the prep protocol is just as difficult as most of the procedures. Prior to any procedure, he must fast for 4 hours, to ensure safety of being flat on his back and in case they need to intubate. If the procedure will include anesthesia, that fast time is extended for at least 6 hours. What was most difficult was the fact that William was considered an "add-on" due to the fact that his procedures had not been scheduled well in advance. The day of his big surgery, he had last eaten at 4am, so by 10am in this picture, he was appeased with the fumes of Mommy's OJ and crinkling a food wrapper.
