Sunday December 6th
Around 5pm, William finally had the ultrasound of his abdomen ordered by Dr. Karjoo. The stenographer worked very diligently as Fred and I attempted to discern the black and white blobs on the screen all the while trying to keep William content. As Fred was singing his original "banana phone" song over and over again, suddenly, the whole procedure seemed to drag on. I started to fret the technician was finding a problem. As soon as we got back in the elevator, I asked Fred, "so do you think she found something? I have a really bad feeling."
That night, we snacked on chips and salsa (a then allergy-free snack on my limited diet) and watched Desperate Housewives (its so weird how vividly you remember some details at times like these). Around 10:15, William was sleeping on me when his pediatrician came to our room. Dr. Remillard calmly told us the ultrasound found a 'mass' in William's abdomen, which seemed to be coming from his left kidney area. He explained that under these circumstances, an oncologist will be consulted to review the results - that is just standard protocol. The doctor also shared some stories along the lines that sometimes these things appear and turn out to be nothing, but have to be examened...blablabla....
We were without words...
By 10:35, William's catnap was over and he was awake. It seemed as though the world had changed with that brief conversation. All the sudden, my baby had something foreign in the middle of his abdomen. With perfect timing, William knew just what his mama needed -some lovin' like only he can give!
After Fred snapped the picture, William whipped his head around...
we had been busted!
